Local residents living in Cyprus, near the heart of Nicosia received a surprise when the Greek Cypriot Government commenced with the removal of the Lokmaci Barricade at around midnight last Thursday.
Crowds gathered in the streets to cheer as the Lokmaci Barricade wall tumbled, with many people calling this a major step in uniting the local communities. Historically important, as the first barricade to be constructed when Cyprus divided, people living in Cyprus are now waiting for the politian’s to decide how soon before this becomes our sixth crossing point. Anyone investing in Cyprus real estate can only benfit from further crossing points between the North and the South.
In the North of the Island the last physical obstacle, in the form of a footbridge which was preventing the opening of a crossing point, was removed in January of this year as a sign of goodwill towards the South and the North received international recognition for their actions.
Not only people who are living in Cyprus or have properties in Cyprus, but also the tourist trade will benefit from having the option to cross freely from one side of Cyprus to the other in the heart of old Nicosia.
